Harvard Extension Math for Teaching Capstone Project
Final Technology Project for Capstone Class
Hi and welcome. Kalyan, James and Chris have chosen to present three Geometry Topics via this website. This is the final technology project for the Spring 2010 Math E-599 Capstone course in the Harvard Extension Mathematics for Teaching Program. The course is intended to give current and aspiring secondary math teachers an opportunity to become engaged in a variety of teaching-related projects. In the first part of the course, participants are given a chance to research a current topic in mathematics education through use of journal articles, giving a presentation of their findings to the math for teaching community. In the second part, participants are asked to investigate how use of a particular technology can be used to enhance classroom math lessons. In addition, everyone gets a chance to participate in an alternative math teaching experiment. We will present our technology project at 4:30 pm May 10, 2010 in the Science Center room 309 at Harvard University, Cambridge, MA. We hope you find these materials useful and engaging in your classroom. Each topic, Pythagorean Theorem, Distance Formula and Pythagorean Triples will be addressed by two lessons. Though this is a cooperative effort each contributor will be in charge of a topic--Chris: Pythagorean Theorem, Kalyan: Distance Formula and James: Pythagorean Triples.
